Blossoms & Barbs: April 24, 2010

Barbs to the Monroe Soccer people who provide the uninteresting articles for the Times on the out of town games. Coaches seldom mention anyone on the team except the scorers and goalies. These kids all work their butts off in practice as well as in games but little if any recognition is given. It's pretty hard to build a program and keep people and participants interested with two paragraph write-ups. I would like to give a blossom to the other spring sports team reporters for their interesting write-ups. For those of us who usually can't make out of town games, the write-ups given to the Times are almost like being at the games. - Interested fans

Huge blossoms of appreciation are extended to all the giving volunteer tutors working diligently to enable others to better their lives through Literacy Council of Green County Ltd. programming. The Mission of the Literacy Council could not be carried out if not for the tutors, who are the core and strength of the program that help adult students gain knowledge of the English Language through weekly learning sessions. Deep appreciation and thanks to the dedicated volunteer tutors who carry out our mission with dignity, patience and humor. - Literacy Council of Green County Ltd. Board of Directors

A barb to the Monroe city council if they vote to paint the water tower in Lincoln park. In 2005 the historical society took full responsibility for the tower. Now they want help to paint it. NO WAY if the city can paint THEIR water tower, I think we can afford to bring back clean up days. Let the society pay for their own paint job. - upset

A barb to the Monroe Times for taking off the article about the teens who were killed in the accident after two days. When the school had "bomb threats" that article sat on the front page for weeks. - Monroe Citizen

A huge blossom to all the EMS, law enforcement and school administrators that have helped this community and our youth deal with the tragic loss of the young lives taken this week. Your efforts, kindness and concern do not go unnoticed. God bless you all and keep you safe as you watch over us and our children. - Jeff Ditzenberger

A grateful blossom to Maple Leaf Cheese in Twin Grove for allowing a Monroe newspaper editor to use the co-op's restroom during his Thursday morning bicycle ride. Thank you. - Paperboy
