Many blossoms to Pam Christopher and the Monroe Chamber of Commerce for hosting the political candidate forum on Thursday evening and to all the citizens who attended. Having never run for public office before, I was a little nervous going into the event. Pam and her dedicated assistants were very helpful and put us at ease, as much as they could, and made this a very gratifying experience for me. With all levels of government facing some very difficult decisions in the upcoming years, these forums are especially important to allow the public to find out where the candidates stand on issues. Thank you again to MCCI.

A barb for the upcoming school referendum. As a senior citizen facing no increase in monthly social security checks I'd like to understand how I'm suppose to afford any more taxes to help pay for issues involving school budget shortfalls? How can parents and relatives of students whom already are facing financial hardships afford to pay for issues involving the school budget shortfalls?
So they have to give up extracurricular activities that only a handful of students actually participate in. I'd rather see that than give up school subjects that everyone learns from. Where's the breakdown stating where this money is headed for? Where are the specifics? And what happens three years down the road? Another referendum? How far can our wallets stretch? Seems to me my adult children were taught just fine on less dollars.
Please think about the hardships of the average Monroe family before voting for something that we just can't afford.
- Vote no next Tuesday
A blossom to The Green County Sheriif's Department. They went above and beyond the call of duty to help me find my lost dog. The dog had accidentally been let loose and had been on the run for two days. I had almost given up hope of ever finding him! Thanks! - Donna Cairy
A huge barb to the city of Monroe Common Council for even considering backing a portion of mortgage debt for it's incoming city administrator to purchase a family home in Monroe!
If the new administrator cannot secure financing on his own, he probably shouldn't be buying a home! He should consider renting until he is financially responsible enough to purchase on his own, like the rest of us do. - Anonymous
Is Michael Boyce and Thurston Hanson the only ones on the council to have any common sense?
Wake up Monroe! And remember to vote April 5th!

A big barb to Dave Searles article about the budget repair bill. The budget repair bill did not eliminate all collective bargaining. It was a right passed by the Wisconsin legislature that can be reversed. He stated that collective bargaining rights are protected by the first amendment under the right to petition the government for a redress of of grievances. In the first place, when Jimmy Carter ( that staunch conservative ) took away the federal employees collective bargaining rights, his action passed all legal actions concerning it.
Secondly, public employees in WI are covered by the WI Civil Service Code which protects their grievance rights. The budget repair bill does not bust public unions as the unions still have the right to organize and meet, they just can't require employees to pay union dues if they don't choose to and their would be the requirement to vote on whether or not to keep the union every so many years.
Why was it OK for the dems to try to pass the card check law allowing union leaders to one by one get employees to sign a petition to unionize and once more than 50 percent of them agreed to or were coerced to sign, the business would then be a union hall without a vote by all the employees, but it isn't ok for a vote ever so many years whether employees want to retain a union? As for the remark about republican stooges and bringing back slavery, that is so slimy and low it shows that if you have nothing worthwhile to say, resort to racism and slander. Why the paper would publish something so worthless is beyond me.

A barb to dog owners that let their dogs run free and do not keep them on a leash. There's nothing better than walking your dog on his leash and almost getting attacked by another dog because the owner doesn't have it on a leash. - Anonymous
Two barbs to President Obama. One for his actions regarding Libya. The other for our growing national debt and excessive spending of money we don't have. - Anonymous
