Huge blossoms to the Monroe Dance Team for its accomplishment in reaching the state competitions. A huge barb to The Monroe Times for not printing the girls' names with the picture and story in the Monday, Jan. 31, 2011 edition. It seems that this publication does not really feel this is an athletic competition deserving of the same coverage other sports teams that make it to state competitions get from this newspaper. Shame, shame on The Monroe Times for their lack of coverage for these hard-working, deserving young women. While some may think Dance Team is a fluff sport, these girls need strength, agility, mental sharpness and overall physical ability to perfect their routines to the point they can compete at this level. They deserve better. - Beverly Johnson
A huge, huge blossom goes out to all the plow truck drivers who worked to clear the roads for all of us ... an extra huge blossom to that special driver who lifted the plow while going past my house on North 12th Avenue early in the morning while I was out shoveling. Thanks. - Tina Gombosi
A barb to people who send anonymous letters criticizing my barb and me. Why should I take you seriously? You do not even have the guts to reveal who you are. You claim I do not work or shop in Brodhead. I work in Brodhead. I'm a professional historian with my own registered, non-profit heritage corporation. I'm also an environmentalist and a public lobbyist with my own non-profit environmental and political organization. I have and do lobby at both the state and national level as a public interest lobbyist. I occasionally shop in stores in Brodhead. As an American citizen, I have every right to express my opinion. People like you only encourage me to push harder. I'm not standing alone. Other like-minded people encourage me. I enjoy rubbing salt in the wounds of conservative Republicans who believe that those of us on the left and/or are poor or the working poor, what you call the "users," aren't entitled to an opinion or should not have the right to vote. Actually "users" are conservative Republicans, big business and corporations who destroy the environment for the almighty buck. An anonymous letter writer is nothing. When I lived in Janesville when some of my letters were printed in The Janesville Gazette, I'd receive death threat phone calls me from religious fanatics and conservative Republicans and that did not stop me. I have a life and I'm always trying to improve it. This is why I'm a public interest lobbyist. Public interest lobbying is about improving the quality of life. Good, safe sidewalks are an improvement in the quality of life for everyone. - Dave Searles
