A blossom to the "Guardian Angel" that anonymously paid for our lunches at Vince's Pizza on Thursday February 23rd, we were pleasantly surprised by your generosity. Thank You. - Aster Retirement Community

A barb to the Monroe School Board for allowing Larry Brown to pursue employment with other school districts while keeping him as our Superintendent. A a time when our teaching and support staff are continually heaped with more work and higher expectations, and when our district is looking at a deficit of 1.5 million dollars, our district leader is looking out for himself and trying to flee to another district. Where is the loyalty and dedication and sense of commitment our school district deserves? If Mr. Brown wants to go, fine then fire him now. This is how it would be handled in the corporate world. A suggestion for the Monroe School Board - Do not replace him and with the money saved, the district could retain at least 2 teachers. We need to keep the people where they will do the most good; and that is teaching the students of Monroe. Monroe School Board step up to the plate and turn this into a blossom. - A Concerned Parent and Tax Payer

A blossom to Marian Burkhardt who donated a designer cow and who was a loyal volunteer at the National Historic Cheesemaking Center. - John Bussman, Warren, Ill.

The Juda Fore Fathers would like give a huge bouquet of blossoms to everyone that helped make our food drive, held on February 11, at the Twin Grove Stage Stop, a great success. Another huge blossom goes to Denny Zimmerman and his staff for all of their hospitality, hard work, and donation of a gift certificate. we were able to donate over 100 pounds of food to each food pantry in Brodhead, Monticello and Monroe, along with a monetary donation. Thank you once again for helping us to help those in need. - All members of Juda Fore Fathers

A blossom to Mayor Bill Ross for writing a mystery novel set in Monroe. I thoroughly enjoyed reading "Deceived by Self," and I'm giving copies to friends and relatives who grew up in Monroe. It was fun to read about places we know and fictional, but familiar characters. - Bobbie Bernet, Monroe

A barb to all the Recall Walker Signers. Governor Walker promised to rein in spending, eliminate the budget deficit and hold the line on taxes and that's exactly what he's done. Our neighboring state of Illinois comptroller office is sitting on nearly $4.3 billion in overdue bills to business providing services - from businesses to hosptials to chairty groups, also owes money to its public employee health plan. In total Illinois unpaid obligation comes to about $8.6 billion. Seventeen percent of Illinois operating budget toward the state public employee pension and health care. - Proud to Support Walker
