From Brooke Bauman
Monroe
I am honored to announce my candidacy for Monroe City Council Ward 2 Alder in the upcoming Spring Election on April 5, 2011. I am proud to say that I have been able to call Monroe home for over 30 years. I was raised here and am now raising my own child here. I feel very fortunate to raise my daughter in the safe environment Monroe offers. Being 50 percent Swiss and having a parent that is a first-generation American, I am proud to be a part of our city's rich cultural heritage.
My interest and respect for government has a long history. Even as a child, I was interested in the systems and processes of a democratic government. Through the years, my love of government by the people has continued to grow. I would be honored by the opportunity to serve the public in a leadership role.
Through my full-time employment with the Monroe Public Library, I play a role in establishing, monitoring and balancing the budget; marketing; policy review; and strategic planning. In addition to my employment, I am also enrolled at half-time status at Blackhawk Technical College. My ability to embrace multiple endeavors is a direct reflection of the strong work ethic my parents have instilled in me.
As the Ward 2 Alder, I will serve Monroe by using my ability to research and understand complex issues that affect the people. I resolve to work with the union, which represents city employees, to assist in the implementation of reasonable changes to health, benefits, and retirement plans that reflect what the majority of people feel are fair and acceptable. I will work to keep the public informed and make my self available to discuss your concerns. Finally, I am committed to using all available resources to make fair and informed decisions for all and bring back responsible decision making on behalf of the people.
I would appreciate your vote on April 5.
