I darted out to my car at the halftime break of the New Glarus-Belleville rivalry game Tuesday night with the intentions of checking in on the Black Hawk-Barneveld game in South Wayne.
Cue the soothing sounds of Jon Satterlee on WEKZ, 93.7:
"Just under two minutes to go here in quarter number one..."
Egads. Did I just hear quarter number one?
I'd just got done watching a, admittedly, less-than-thrilling struggle in the first half between the Knights and the Wildcats. My sports reporter was watching a game that started half and hour late.
I immediately thought it would be a rough night. Quickly, I was put in my place.
The Glarner Knights hit the floor, several long bombs and did everything in their power in the second half to scrap out a 46-40 victory.
Much better.
Do interviews.
Sprint back to the office.
First call - Kevin Keen reporting that the Cheesemakers rallied in a 17-5 fourth quarter to shock Sauk.
Wow, this is getting better quickly.
Next call - Hello? Coach Doescher, how are you? First win of the season? Extraordinary circumstances?
Yessir, now this is getting crazy.
Finally, I can get back in touch with Monticello coach Heath Eliason, who I've asked repeatedly to call back due to phone call traffic.
His Lady Ponies lose on a waived-off, 35-foot 3-pointer that would've meant the first win of the season.
It's at this point that I start to think, "Wow, it's handy that we can blog now, I should really get my reactions out there after such a crazy night with so many dramatic finishes."
Then I find out Darlington also won a cardiac contest. About for hours later, at 2 a.m., I give up on getting around to that blog. It's taken too long to give proper credit to the amazing performances that somehow all fit into one night.
All in all, it's just another night in the office in southwestern Wisco.
