My editor couldn't have put it any better in a reply to an email I sent him at the wee hour of 12:30 p.m.
Good morning, sunshine, he mocked.
I'd first woken up about an hour and a half prior and, without fully-understanding why, a massive smile eclipsed my face.
Oh wait, now I remember why.
I love sports. I truly do with every essence of my soul. But we've just survived the three-week perfect storm of losing a sports reporter, chasing down two thrilling state title runs and writing/shoe-horning 31 sports stories into a 24-page preview section that, for a lack of a better alternative, always seems to come out a week too early.
Let's just say, when I got home at about 2:30 this morning, I was a bit pooped.
But wait, this is, despite my groveling, is a happy happy letter. When I woke up this morning, it occurred to me that, while Mother Nature disagrees, it's baseball season. It's a whole lot of other seasons too, like golf and grilling out season.
It's amazing what pushing yourself to your limit can do for you when you get to the other side.
I thought I'd enter the spring season dogged. Now that I got a good night's sleep, I may be as eager to get out to some games as the athletes themselves.
