Its that time of the year when we are deciding what the top local news and sports stories were during the past 12 months. In Fridays edition, well share our top 10 stories in news and sports. Our sports department may split the top stories between the Friday and Saturday papers.
The people in our news department will be voting today. The ballot includes many of the usual suspects of the past couple of years: Wal-Mart Supercenter, Green County Justice Center. There were a few controversial issues in 2008 that may make the list: The debate over street assessments for Monroe property owners; the firing of Monroe City Administrator Mark Vahlsing; and the allowance of alcohol to be carried around the Square at Cheese Days. And, of course, weather is certain to be prominent on the list. We had a giant snowstorm capping a record winter season in 2008, and flooding in the summer.
