Skeptical of stimulus

Lets face it, nobody really knows for sure how to fix the U.S. economy. If someone did, we probably wouldnt find ourselves in the mess were in now.

How the federal government can, or should, stimulate the U.S. economy has dominated national news for many weeks pretty much since Barack Obama was elected president.

Im not going to get into the elements of the debate, or their merits, with this blog. Ill let readers do that with their comments, if they wish. Id be interested to read them.

But I did want to mention that the results of last weeks news poll indicated an overwhelming majority of respondents dont think an economic stimulus plan solve the nations economic crisis.

The question first was asked before a final stimulus package was approved, but by last Wednesday it was pretty apparent it would be highlighted by infrastructure spending and tax breaks. Of the 424 people who voted, only 49 think a stimulus will work. Three hundred and four people said it wont. Another 79 said they arent sure.

I believe that the best thing to stimulate the U.S. economy is to restore consumer confidence. If Americans nationwide are as skeptical of the stimulus potential as those who took our news poll are, the prospects dont look good for consumer confidence any day soon.

What do you think?
