MJG: Week 10

Well, we found Syesha's future: The girl needs to be in musical theater. She was great - and very sexy, as Simon pointed out - in the Sir Andrew Lloyd Weber category. (A great night, BTW. Made me wish I was competing -- I would have done something from 'Evita' no doubt.) She's still not my favorite, but she could be very successful on Broadway.

And my sweet, sweet Jason - he stank. Jason is like a summer love. He's fun, he's sweet, he's different. He's a fling, not someone you expect to stick around awhile. He's charmed his way through so far, but last night's choice was just plain weird. How could anyone who wants to be a singer not know "Memory?" I fear the charm is wearing off - it's getting to be mid August and school is just around the corner (as in, it's getting close to time to say buh-bye to Jason.)

Carly actually picked the best song of the night - who doesn't enjoy belting out a verse or two of "Jesus Christ Superstar?" But Simon was right again - she tends to be to "shouty" during her "power" parts.

Both Davids did a great job, David A. probably more so. It just wasn't David Cook's genre, but he certainly showed he can handle anything. We'll be seeing those two in the finals.

And poor Brooke. She just doesn't have what it takes, I fear. I thought she performed well enough, but you can see she can't take the pressure. This will be her week.

Finally a shout-out to Susan S. from Rockford, a long-time "Idol" fan(atic) who warmly welcomed me to the "family." Thanks!
