As I write this, our reporters are working on a story about a Monroe school evacuation in the wake of a written threat.
Today, it is Monroe Middle School.
Yesterday, it was Monroe High School.
Last Thursday it was the high school for the first time.
Its getting a little ridiculous, dont you think? And a little bit frightening. How do you know when a threat is serious, and when its an awful, criminal joke?
School officials, rightly, have erred on the side of caution. Heaven forbid if they didnt, and a threat turned out to be real.
Still, there have been critics of the school districts handling of the situation from our online posters. The school district should add security (they added a police presence at the high school today), should inform parents more quickly, shouldnt take students (and potentially the perpetrator) from one school to another, shouldnt leave them outside in the cold without a coat.
Frankly, I think whatever the school does will bring criticisms.
We are working on some follow-up stories for Wednesdays edition about policies and procedures and how the school district handles these kinds of threats. If you have any thoughts on questions youd like asked, or angles pursued, make a Reader Comment to this blog. Thanks.
