Don't ride your bike if you have the flu
Placeholder Image
A few of you may have been able to figure out by now I like to ride my bicycle, a lot.

So, after about a week of not being able to do it because a few logistical obstacles in my schedule and a Sunday assault by what I think was the flu bug, I was determined to get back on the horse this morning.

OUCH.

When the doctor tells you to stay off your feet until you recover listen to him or her.

I thought after two days of doing nothing but working and sleeping, I would be fine to ride again. I rode for sure, but it was more like dragging myself 20 miles. But, I was bundled up like a snowmobile rider so at least I was warm.

The point of all this rambling? With the flu and cold season upon us all take care to prevent spreading diseases, wash your hands regularly, sneeze into your arm or sleeve, not a hand, and get plenty of rest. Also, try to eat food with plenty of vitamins and minerals.

But, for some that is not enough. Elderly or young children might need a boost, such as a flu shot.

Depending on your personal philosophy regarding medical treatments, flu shots can be a good way to avoid getting sick this season.

See your medical provider for a list of flu clinics near you, but for those in the southern portion of our readership area, or those willing to drive, here is a list of flu shot locations provided by FHN in northern Illinois.

These clinics do have a few guidelines:

The FHN flu shots are $25 cash or check payable to FHN. (This price applies only to immunizations available at these sites; other rates apply in FHN provider offices.) You will have no out-of-pocket expense if you are covered by a Medicare HMO accepted by FHN there will be a list available at each flu shot clinic. If covered by an accepted Medicare HMO, you MUST present that HMO card instead of your Medicare card for billing purposes. If covered by Medicare Part B, present your Medicare card.

This year, because of federal guidelines to prevent identity theft, you must present a photo ID to receive an immunization.

Children can only be immunized if a written prescription from a physician indicating dosage is presented. Persons with allergy to eggs or the flu vaccine, those with an illness accompanied by a fever or depressed immune system should not receive the flu immunization at these locations.

Green County Farmhouse Project

Please continue to send farmhouse pictures so I can get this thing up and running. Dont forget, pictures must be simple snap shots of a farmhouse in Green County taken from directly in front of the home, no people or barns please. The only information I ask is for the name of the street, if you wish, but more importantly the name of the town or city the farm is located in. Please e-mail your photos to newseditor@themonroetimes.com.

Take care and watch out for bicycles.
