As the description of this blog suggests you can see a lot from the saddle of a bicycle while riding through Green and Lafayette counties.
On Sunday morning, for example, I was riding along County HK in southwest Green County, near County B.
Aside from the home-built Dodge Ram monster truck, I took greater notice of something far more out of place, and far more disturbing than the truck. I observed an alarming amount of empty alcohol containers strewn along the side of the road.
And, not just on HK, but in fact, I saw a shocking amount of empty beer cans and bottles along the side of the road over the previous 40 miles.
I need your help to get to the source of this recyclable waste. Why would there be what looks like a trail of beer cans along the side of area roads?
I might be naive, but could it be people are drinking while driving and ditching the cans in the, well ditch?
This blog will be used to address this serious issue through conversations with local law enforcement in Green and Lafayette counties, but for now I want your thoughts.
Please post a comment to this story in response to my questions above.
There appears to be something to my theory. Each week in the police blotter and traffic accidents, which we print in the Monroe Times, there are frequently several instances when people are charged with driving with open alcohol containers.
In addition to helping me discern the source of the beer can litter, what could be done to help stop this dangerous practice?
The community must be made aware of whatever the is causing this litter, if for nothing else than to stop the garbage from being tossed on the side of the road.
If there is a serious problem like drinking while driving behind this, family, parents and friends need to step in and say something to whoever feels drinking while driving is an allowable practice.
Green County Farmhouse Project
Please continue to send farmhouse pictures so I can get this thing up and running. Dont forget, pictures must be simple snap shots of a farmhouse in Green County taken from directly in front of the home, no people or barns please. The only information I ask is for the name of the street, if you wish, but more importantly the name of the town or city the farm is located in. Please e-mail your photos to newseditor@themonroetimes.com.
Take care and watch out for bicycles.
