Mat Rats see success in 3 tourneys

MONROE — Twenty-three Monroe Mat Rats competed area youth wrestling tournaments Jan. 12-13. 

On Jan.12, Grant Ula (grades 3-4, 73-80 pounds) and Carson Menehan (grades 5-6, 88-100 pounds) placed first in the North Crawford Seneca Youth Wrestling Tournament.

On Jan. 13, eight Monroe Mat Rats wrestled in the Belmont/Platteville Youth Wrestling Tournament. This was a four-person Round Robin tournament by grade and weight. 

In the girls PreK-K group, Gabreille Harms (45-55 pounds) placed fourth. In the boys division, grades 1-2 group, Briggs Hoesly (50-53 pounds) placed third and Beau Hoesly (68-74 pounds) placed third. In grades 3-4, Noah Schuh (58-61 pounds) placed third, Gage Jelle (66-68 pounds) placed first, Patrick Harms (74-76 pounds) placed first, and Wyatt Weckerly (76-82 pounds) placed first. In grades 5-6, Payton Weckerly (100-104 pounds) placed first.

Also on, Jan. 13, thirteen Monroe Mat Rats wrestled at the Stateline Area Beginners Tournament in Juda. This was a four-person Round Robin tournament by grade and weight. In the PreK-K group, Colton Ladwig (36-38 pound) placed third, Bryant McDonald (49-52 pounds) placed fourth, and Maverick Meighan (53-55 pounds) placed third. In grades 1-2, Blaine Fletcher (46-49 pounds) placed first, Kaydon Proctor (50 pounds) placed third, Abram Homb (51-55 pounds) placed second, and Brody Eberle (69-71 pounds) placed first.

In grades 3-4, Oliver Helland (63-66 pounds) placed second, Tyler Briggs (79-84 pounds) placed second, Aydan Leopold (105-115 pounds) placed second, Connor Swindle (145-152 pounds) placed first, and Carson Austin (145-152 pounds) placed second. In grades 5-6, Coldan Altmann (84-85 pounds) placed second.
