MONROE — The Monroe Area Swim Team edged the Evansville Blue Sharks for first place at the annual Dr. Stiles swim meet July 15, delayed one day due to storms.

MAST finished with a score of 1,504, which was higher than Evansville (1,378), Platteville (553), Belleville (505), Jaws (194) and Milton (169). The MAST team combined for 19-total first place finishes combined for both girls and boys events.

Zach Meighan, Monroe, took home first place honors in the boys 200 freestyle with a time of 2 minutes, 42.66 seconds. He was also first in the boys 13-14 200 Individual Medley (3:09.00) and the boys 13-14 50 butterfly (39.09)

Monroe’s Jade Tran was the top finisher in the 19-person girls 8-and-under 25 freestyle with a time of 23.98 seconds. She also won the girls 8-and-under 25 butterfly (28.25).

In the girls 15-18 50 freestyle race, Monroe’s Laurel Houston came out on top with a time of 36.75 seconds. Houston was also on the girls 15-18 200 medley relay team that took first (3:14.76).

Padraic Houston won the boys 11-12 200 IM (4:18.41), was second in the boys 11-12 100 freestyle (1:41.16) and third in the boys 11-12 50 backstroke (52.87).

Lyla Ritschard won the girls 9-10 breaststroke (54.89), Bryell Schulz secured the top spot in the girls 8-and-under 50 freestyle (58.49), Kristina Foley was first in the girls 11-12 50 butterfly (57.41) and Elsa Schaefer was the medalist in the girls 13-14 200 IM (3:21.14). Monroe also got first place finishes from Emma Tran (55.93 in the girls 11-12 breaststroke) and Kira Schmidt (1:06.70 in the girls 9-10 50 backstroke), as well as the relay teams in the girls 13-14 200 medley, girls 15-18 200 medley, girls 10-and-under 100 medley, girls 10-and-under 100 freestyle and boys 13-14 freestyle relay.
