MONROE — The Green County YMCA Gems gymnastics team, along with Stateline YMCA in Beloit will be hosting the YMCA Nationals meet June 19-23 at the Woodside Sports Complex in Wisconsin Dells.
Nearly 100 teams from around the nation, including over 1,700 youth gymnasts, 250 coaches and their families, will be attending. Levels 1-10, Xcel and boys competitions will all take place.
Setup for the event will take place June 19, and competition begins at 8 a.m. June 20 and lasts through June 23. The afternoon of Friday, June 21 will be the “Celebration of Champions” at the Tommy Bartlett Show & Exploratory. All competitors and teams will hold a march into the stadium at 2:30 p.m., which will be followed by Marvin Kimble, the keynote speaker, at 3:30 p.m.
Kimble, a 23-year-old from Milwaukee, is a two-year member of the U.S. World Championships team, and was the 2017 U.S. champion in still rings and high bar.
A 90-minute Tommy Bartlett Ski Sky Stage Show will begin for the crowd following Kimble’s address at 4:30 p.m.
The national meet is a huge undertaking and requires additional help than just the host team. Anyone interested in volunteering for any of the 3- to 4-hour shifts or becoming a sponsor can contact Gems coach Dawn Lederman at the Green County Family YMCA.
