MONROE — The Monroe Parks and Recreation Department has deadlines approaching for fall activities for are residents and nonresidents.


FALL VOLLEYBALL CAMP WITH THE CHEESEMAKERS

Grades 3-4 and 5-6, for boys and girls. Fee is $35 Residents (includes t-shirt), $45 NR and registration deadline is Friday, August 30.  

A t-shirt sponsor for this program is needed. Sponsorship cost is $100 and sponsor logo or name would go on the back of team shirts.

Practices will be Sept. 16, 23, and 30 from 2:30-4 p.m. at Monroe High School. All players will be able to ride a bus from Northside, St. Victor’s, Parkside and Monroe Middle School to the high school on early release Mondays. 

Game Dates will be Oct 7 and 14 at Northside School. Parents are encouraged to attend and cheer on the kids. Grades 3-4 will play games from 5:30-6:15 p.m. Grades 5-6 will play games from 6:15-7 p.m. 

All youth volleyball players will be invited to “Youth Night” on Thursday, Sept. 26 at Monroe High School. Junior Varsity and JV2 matches will start at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity match will start at approximately 7 p.m. All youth volleyball players should arrive early and wear their program t-shirt. The youth volleyball players will get in the game free and be part of the pre-game rituals with the varsity team. Family members will need to pay to get into the game. 

Participants are also encouraged to register for Volleyball with the Cheesemakers one day program. The Cheesemakers volleyball team will be there to work on volleyball skills and drills. Everyone will receive a Campion’s Champion t-shirt sponsored by Monroe Morning Optimists. It is open to anyone in grades 3-8 and will be held Monday, Aug. 26 from 1:30-3 p.m. at the MHS gym. The cost is $10.00. 


FLAG FOOTBALL 

Program is for 5K-8th grade and is co-ed. Fee is $50 for residents and $60 for non-residents and includes reversible NFL replica Jersey.  

First practice: All K-1 will practice Thursday, Sept. 12th from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Twining East. Grades 2-3 will practice Thursday, Sept. 12 from 6:45-7:45 p.m. at Twining East. Grades 4-5 will practice Tuesday, Sept. 10 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Twining East. Grades 6-8 will practice Tuesday, Sept. 10 from 6:45-7:45 p.m. at Twining East. 

Additional practices will be scheduled by the volunteer coaches. Families will receive practice schedule the first night. 

The game schedule will be: Grades K-1 and 2-3 Thursday nights from Sept. 19 to Oct. 17. Grades 4-5 and 6-8 will be Tuesdays nights from Sept. 17 to Oct 15.

Game schedules will be handed out at the first practice. 

In order to receive a jersey, the registration deadline is Friday, Aug. 23. Volunteer coaches are needed. A coaches meeting for each age group will be at the Parks and Rec office (1110 18th Ave) Tuesday Aug. 27 and Thursday, Aug. 29. 

On Aug. 27, grades 4-5 will meet from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and grades 6-8 will be from 6:30-7:30 p.m. 

On Aug. 29, the meeting for grades K-1 will be from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and grades 2-3 will be from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

The department also encourages children to also sign up for its Football with the Cheesemakers one day program.  

Everyone will receive a Campion’s Champions t-shirt sponsored by Colony Brands. It is open to anyone in grades 5K-8 and will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 27 from 1:30-3 p.m. at the Monroe High School practice field (rain site MHS gym). The cost is $10.00.
