Breadon meet, art exhibit Saturday
Swim Lessons 02

MONROE — The Monroe Parks and Recreation Department and Monroe Area Swim Team will host the Gavin Breadon Memorial Swim Meet, Art Exhibit and Silent Auction from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday.

The auction is being held in memory of Gavin Breadon, a 1991 graduate of Monroe High School and a 1996 graduate of Central Iowa College in Iowa. Breadon was a swimmer, football player, wrestler and track member at MHS. He attended medical school in Dublin, Ireland, but in October 2002 at the start of his senior year, he had a heart attack and died suddenly.

As part of the event, there will be an online auction for five of the pieces of glasswork. This year, the event is using an online bidding website called 32 Auctions to auction off five of Eoin Breadon’s

hand-blown art pieces. The pieces will be visible at the bottom of the webpage, www.32auctions.com/gavinbreadonmemorial, until 3 p.m. Friday.

The art pieces being sold were made and donated by Breadon’s brother, Eion Breadon, a glass artist and sculptor.

The pick-up location for the pieces will be at the Monroe Parks and Recreation

temporary office, 1064 5th Ave. Payments will be made by cash or check at the office when picking up the glasswork.

There also will be different pieces to bid on at the pool from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Some of the pieces are available to view at the Bullquarian Brewhouse located at 1128 17th Ave., one block south of the Monroe Square.

T-shirts are available to purchase. Funds from the T-shirts and auction will go to high school scholarships in memory of Gavin Breadon.

Friends and the MAST swim team are invited to the Breadon home to swim and join them for a potluck at the pool at noon. Bring a dish to pass and your own tableware. Contact the Parks and Recreation office with any questions at 329-2460.
