Monroe Avalanche Bantam B team lost to Verona 8-7 Jan. 25 in Verona. Aiden Grey had a hat trick for Monroe in the loss.

MONROE — The Monroe Avalanche Bantam B went 1-1 last weekend, falling to Verona Jan. 25 before dominating McFarland Jan. 26.


Verona 8, Avalanche 7

Monroe started the busy evening off halfway through the first period, with two goals in 34 seconds. The first would be a great shot by Christian Carpenter that hit the back of the net. Following that goal, Jayden Downs took a pass from Aidan Grey and lit the lamp as well to put the Avalanche up 2-0. 

Verona fought back, scoring three of their own before Grey stopped their rally off a pass from Carson Kurschner that tied it at 3-3 going into the second frame. 

Verona took control of the momentum, scoring twice in just seven seconds. The Wildcats added to their lead before Grey once again got one through the pipes, assists going to Kurschner and Downs. Headed into the final period, Verona led 7-4. 

The Bantam B’s fought back, with Grey reaching a hat trick and Haden Barker netting the puck. Easton Dreyfus assisting on Grey’s goal. Verona snuck one in before Downs shot one through, which was assisted by Grey. Goalie Xander Obert had 28 saves in the loss.

The Avalanche Bantam B team defeated McFarland 8-1. Grey had four goals in the victory.

Aidan Grey would lead all scorers today, totaling four goals on the day, with two of them in under five seconds. Assisting Grey on his goals today were Jayden Downs, Carson Kurschner, Haden Barker, and Sergio Fletcher. Downs would also score in the first period, from a pass by Kurschner. Fletcher snapped on through from the blue line off of a pass from Grey to end the first period, giving the Avalanche a 5-0 advantage. 

Payton Hathaway started off the second period for Monroe with a goal. Grey and Fletcher assisted. Barker would wrap up the scoring for the Bantam Bs late in the second period, increasing Monroe’s lead to 8-0 going into the third. 

Xander Obert recorded 35 saves in the 8-1 victory. 

Next up for the Monroe Avalanche Bantam B team is a rematch against Janesville, in the first Playdown game at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 2 at Hartmeyer Ice Arena.
