MONROE - Monroe High School freshman Noah Becker has worked on the chain gang and played Blaze football for four years at the Green County Family YMCA.

It's part of the reason Becker has kicked off a fundraising campaign to build a two-story observation deck attached to the press box at the Green County YMCA. Five years ago, the press box was the Eagle Scout project of Noah's older brother, Ben. Now, Noah, as part of his Eagle Scout project, is looking to make an addition to the press box that is used for youth football games at the YMCA.

"I loved being out there when he (Ben) was doing it," Noah Becker said. "I just wanted to be a part of it."

Noah was in fourth grade and playing Blaze football when his brother raised enough money to have the press box built. Now, he's looking forward to raising about $15,000 to build the observation deck.

The observation deck for the press box will be used for meetings and additional storage for the YMCA's sports programs.

Becker said the observation deck is needed for Blaze football coaches and teams to have more room for meetings and to watch film. He's planning to have a door or open area from the press box that leads to the observation deck so coaches can monitor who enters the area.

Becker has already raised $2,000 in his campaign push.

"It makes me feel great and it shows that people care," Becker said of the money he has raised so far. "They want to support the Y and help the Y. They want to do things in the community and be a part of it."

Becker has two upcoming fundraisers scheduled: a Pizza Hut buffet fundraiser from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 16 and a car wash from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 21 in the Piggly Wiggly parking lot.

Becker also will be selling Papa Murphy's discount cards for $5 during his fundraising campaign.

Becker also has a Facebook page on which he updates with fundraising news on the observation deck project.

Becker said the goal is to start the construction of the observation deck next summer and have it completed for a grand opening before the Blaze football season kicks off in the fall of 2017.

"I'm sure he's pretty excited," Noah said of Ben. "I want him to be there for the grand opening."
