Whippets rally past Cardinals

BRODHEAD - Senior Erin Nyhus drilled three 3-pointers and scored a game-high 28 points, but the Brodhead girls basketball team couldn't hang onto an early lead and lost to Whitewater 58-47 Friday.

Brodhead (4-5, 2-5 Rock Valley) led 25-22 at the half. The Whippets outscored the Cardinals 36-22 in the second half.

Brodhead shot 62 percent from the free-throw line (13 of 21), compared to the Whippets, who shot 58 percent (15 of 26). Brodhead junior Jacklyn Kleeman added 9 points.

Whitewater's Kacie Carollo scored a team-high 22 points and also hit three 3-pointers. Whitewater's Abby Grosinske added 14 points.



Darlington 65, Southwestern 31

DARLINGTON - The Darlington girls basketball team had a balanced attack and rolled to a big Southwestern Activities League victory over Southwestern Friday.

Darlington junior Kathleen Mathias scored a game-high 15 points and was one of three Redbird players in double figures. Junior teammate Kaylee Meyers hit three 3-pointers and added 12 points and Brenna McDonald chipped in 10 points.

Darlington (6-2, 3-0 SWAL) raced out to a 39-17 lead at the half. Darlington's Bethany McDonald added 8 points. Meyers knocked down three of the Redbirds' six 3-pointers.

With the win, the Redbirds remain on top in the SWAL. Darlington will play at Fennimore Tuesday.
