West tops East in Six Rivers Challenge

ARGYLE - The Orioles picked up their third win of the year, 40-33 over Belmont (1-13, 0-7 Six Rivers West) in the Six Rivers Challenge Friday.

Argyle jumped out to an 11-4 lead after the first quarter but held just a 3-point lead at the half.

"It was pretty rough and physical," Orioles coach Brandon Bakken said.

Ryan Geissbuhler scored 11 points and Nate Thomas added 10 for Argyle (3-9, 1-6 Six Rivers East).

River Ridge 56, Pecatonica 44

BLANCHARDVILLE - Karson Feller had 13 points for the Vikings, but Pecatonica (3-11, 2-5 Six Rivers East) could not knock off River Ridge (7-8, 3-4 Six Rivers West) in the Six Rivers Challenge Friday.

Tanner Kleppe and Tannar Johnson both scored seven points for the Vikings, which trailed 11-2 after the first quarter and 24-14 at halftime.

Cassville 58,

Albany 49

ALBANY - The Comets (3-12, 2-5 Six Rivers East) had a tough time keeping up with Cassville (7-7, 3-4 Six Rivers West).

"Free throws were the difference," Albany coach Derik Doescher said.

Cassville was 16 of 21 from the charity stripe, while Albany was just 4-for-5.

Freshman Isaiah Shell scored a game-high 18 points for Albany and Boomer Detra had nine.

Potosi 51, Juda 32

JUDA - Four Panthers combined for 24 points, but it was Potosi that took control of the game in the second half.

Trailing 20-18 entering the third quarter, the Chieftains (10-4, 4-2 Six Rivers West) went on a roll, outscoring Juda (8-6, 5-2 Six Rivers East) 33-12 in the second half.

"The third quarter was the story of the game," Panthers coach Kyle Krueger said. "We couldn't make our shots, but credit to Potosi, they took us out of our offense."

Black Hawk 62, Highland 51

SOUTH WAYNE - Four Warriors finished in double figures as Black Hawk (5-9, 2-5 Six Rivers East) knocked off the Cardinals (2-11, 2-5 Six Rivers East).

Cory Rupnow led the way, scoring 18 to lead Black Hawk, Jake Meier had 15, Michael Wolff 11 and Merik Meythaler 10.

The Warriors, which had only seven players see time in the game, led just 33-31 at halftime. In the third quarter, Black Hawk pulled away, outscoring the Cardinals 15-6.

Benton defeated Barneveld 55-48, sealing the Six Rivers Challenge for the West.

Brodhead 52, Jefferson 38

BRODHEAD - J.J. Panoske scored 18 of his game-high 22 points in the second half as the Cardinals pulled away from Jefferson in a Rock Valley Conference crossover.

Brodhead (8-7, 5-4 Rock Valley South) trailed 6-4 after the first quarter but held an 18-15 lead at halftime. Jefferson (7-7, 6-3 Rock Valley North) hung with the Cardinals in the third and entered the fourth down just 35-29.

The Cardinals finished 11 of 14 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, which sealed the win.

In other area basketball action, New Glarus knocked off Waterloo 47-43.
