MONROE - The Monroe Blues lost a hard-fought game 7-3 to the West Bend Bombers in a semi-pro Great Lakes Hockey League showdown Saturday.
West Bend jumped out to a 3-0 lead. With 4 minutes left in the second period, the Blues got a spark from Brandon Mortimer with a goal on an assist from Gottlieb Brandli III and Ryan Roeming.
Monroe scored another goal to start the third period with a goal by Dom Peterson on assists from Scott Perkins and David Lynne. Perkins also got an unassisted power-play goal with 7 minutes, 46 seconds left in game to cut West Bend's lead to 4-3. The Bombers had a short-handed goal to seal the game with 2:45 to go.
Monroe goalie Christian Black had 46 saves. Monroe is on the road this weekend to face the Fond Du Lac Bears. Monroe will be back in town Jan. 23 and Jan. 24, facing Fond Du Lac and Portage Lake, Mich. Both games start at 8 p.m.
