PLATTEVILLE - Black Hawk senior Jen Wellnitz won conference championships in four events at the Six Rivers Conference track meet Monday at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

Wellnitz captured conference titles in the 100-meter dash (12.90), 200 (27.40), the long jump (15 feet, 9 1/2 inches) and the triple jump (33-5 1/2).

Benton-Scales Mound-Shullsburg won the conference team championships in both girls and boys track. In the boys' conference meet, Benton-Shullsburg rolled to the title 198.5-124 over second-place Albany. Monticello (77) finished fifth, Black Hawk took sixth (28) and Pecatonica-Argyle was seventh (26) out of eight teams.

"We were happy about it," Albany coach Tony Brewer said. "We knew they (Benton-Shullsburg) were the favorite going in, and we were seeded second. We knew with any chance to compete with them we would have needed Isaiah Shell and would have needed almost a perfect night to compete with them."

Shell missed the meet with a groin injury.

In the girls' conference meet, Benton-Scales Mound-Shullsburg won the conference title 190-152.5 over River Ridge. Albany (95) finished third and Black Hawk was fourth (77). Pecatonica-Argyle took sixth (63) and Monticello was last (15) out of eight teams.

Albany senior Bailey Hlavachek won the 1,600 (5 minutes, 43.88 seconds) and the 3,200 (13:11.68). She added a second-place finish in the 800 (2:26.99). Sophomore teammate Sydnee Woyak took second in the 1,600 (5:59.82).

"She's a four-time conference champion in the mile and 2-mile," Brewer said of Hlavachek. "That is pretty remarkable."

The Comets took the top two in the 1,600. Woyak just got cleared to run after overcoming seizure-like symptoms after she would get done running. She passed a stress test Monday and was cleared.

"She was excited to just get out and run," Brewer said. "She hasn't even been running. There were some times she was struggling. She ran great considering everything she has been through."

The Pecatonica-Argyle girls track team finished in second place in the 400, 800 and 1,600 relays. Pecatonica-Argyle senior Hannah Swenson teamed with freshman Josie Penniston, senior Amiee Von Arx and senior Katie Zwicker in the 400 relay to take second (54.87).
