Week 5 is nearly unanimous

Sports editor Adam Krebs (23-9) picked up one game a week ago on sports reporter Mark Nesbitt (25-7). Thanks to New Glarus-Monticello's thrilling comeback win to beat Poynette, Adam finished 7-2 last week while Mark went just 6-3. This week, the prep picks are even but the NFL is where the difference can be made up.

Edgewood (3-1) at Monroe (0-4)

Adam: An opening week loss to Mount Horeb-Barneveld is the only blemish on Edgewood's year. Monroe, meanwhile, has been exposed on multiple fronts in each of their first four games. Be it offense, defense, special teams or the turnover differencial, the Cheesemakers just haven't put it all together. Pick: Edgewood

Mark: It doesn't get any easier for the Cheesemakers with the Crusaders. Edgewood has overcome a season ending spinal injury to starting quarterback Spencer Brink to contend for a playoff spot. The Cheesemakers' offense has made strides, but Edgewood will roll. Pick: Madison Edgewood

Belleville-Albany (0-4) at New Glarus-Monticello (4-0)

Adam: This is a huge rivalry for all intents and purposes. It doesn't matter how well each team is ranked coming into the game, both lay it all on the field - shown by last year's one-score game. Fortunately for the Knights, they've already had a few of those high-intensity ball games already this year. Pick: NGM

Mark: The Glarner Knights were impressive in rallying from a 16-0 deficit to beat previously ninth ranked Poynette 17-16. The Knights won't be able to look past the Wildcats. Belleville-Albany almost upset New Glarus-Monticello last year before the Knights pulled out an 8-6 win. The Knights have more offensive weapons and a tough defense that should lead to a homecoming win. Pick: New Glarus-Monticello

Darlington (4-0) at Cuba City (0-4)

Adam: A year ago these two teams finished tied for the SWAL title. That won't happen this year. Darlington is the best team I've witnessed this year - regardless of division. Side note: Sorry Redbird fans. I forgot to cast my AP vote this week, so you did not have your first-place vote this week. That won't happen again, assuming you win. Pick: Darlington

Mark: This could determine if the Redbirds can win an outright SWAL title. The Redbirds just edged the Cubans 20-14 last year. The Redbirds high powered offense is averaging 42.6 points per game. The Cubans won't be able to take away all of the Redbirds offensive weapons. Pick: Darlington

Parkview (3-1) at Brodhead-Juda (2-2)

Adam: Brodhead may be one of the best 2-loss teams in the state - right there with Big Foot, Reedsburg and Wisconsin Lutheran. Plus, it's homecoming week for the Cardinals. Bad news for the Vikings. Pick: Cards

Mark: The Cardinals are another team hosting homecoming this weekend. That won't be a distraction for the Cardinals who are averaging 24 points per game. Jesse Delorme has emerged as a running back that can pick up the tough yards. He rushed for 94 yards and a touchdown in a 21-8 win over Evansville last week. Pick: Brodhead-Juda

Black Hawk (2-2) at Potosi (4-0)

Adam: Another year, another 4-0 start for the Chieftains. Black Hawk has played well this season, but on the road against a team like Potosi, I don't think so. Pick: Potosi

Mark: The Warriors' offense proved they can move the ball against anyone despite a 34-21 loss to River Ridge. Potosi like River Ridge will control the line of scrimmage against a quick and talented Black Hawk team. Potosi running back Dakota Runde has rushed for more than 450 yards and seven touchdowns and the Chieftains' defense has given up just three touchdowns this year. Pick: Potosi

Cassville (0-4) at Pecatonica-Argyle (1-3)

Adam: With Shullsburg coming up next week, the Vikings needed to pick up some momentum. With a big win over Highland last week and a bottom dweller in Cassville this week, there is no reason Pec-Argyle can't go into Week 6 with a good shot at getting back to .500. Pick: Pec-Argyle

Mark: The Vikings picked up their first win last week. Pec-Argyle had another playmaker emerge in a 42-12 win over Highland last week. Alec Treuthardt rushed for 89 yards and had two touchdowns. The Vikings should roll and build momentum before a critical matchup against Black Hawk coming up. Pick: Pecatonica-Argyle

Austin Peay (2-1) at Wisconsin (3-0)

Adam: No need to say much here. If Austin Peay stays within three scores then there should be real worry in Madison in the coming weeks. This is an easy test for the coaches to figure out how to adapt to life without stud linebacker Chris Borland. Pick: Bucky

Mark: The Badgers may be ranked No. 11, but they are not playing like a top 25 ranked team after a scare against Arizona State before pulling out a 20-19 win. With a team banged up with injuries, they are fortunate Big 10 play hasn't started yet. With Chris Borland out for the year, the offense will have to score more points to win. The healthy return of wide receivers Nick Toon and David Gilreath would give the offense the boost it needs. Pick: Badgers

Green Bay (2-0) at Chicago (2-0)

Adam: I'm actually very surprised at how well the Bears have played thus far. The Detroit win was laugable, but last week's solid win against Dallas was huge. I'll still take the Packers, who I think will run the table in the NFC this year. Pick: Packers

Mark: The Packers young and unproven secondary hasn't been tested yet. The Packers are starting a rookie safety in Morgan Burnett and undrafted rookie Sam Shields is playing more than half the plays on defense as a nickel back. Jay Cutler and Da Bears will exploit that weakness. In a close game, the Bears have the edge in special teams with superior kickoff, punt return and punting teams leading to an edge in field position. Pick: Bears
