WATERLOO - The Waterloo Pirates broke open a close game by scoring eight runs in the fifth inning and claimed a 13-3 win over the New Glarus Glarner Knights in Capitol South Conference action Thursday.
The Knights scored once in the first inning, only to see the Pirates get three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-1 lead. New Glarus tied it at 3-3 with two runs in the second inning.
Waterloo got single tallies in the third and fourth innings, before ending the game on the 10-rule with an eight-run fifth inning. Senior Carlin Moen got two of the Glarner Knights' four hits including a double.
New Glarus (2-11, 1-8 Capitol South) will travel to Wisconsin Heights Tuesday.
