Warriors win; Cards, Pec and Darlington all fall

ORFORDVILLE - The Orfrodville Parkview Vikings (4-0) remained undefeated in the Rock Valley South by downing the Brodhead Cardinals Thursday, 25-17, 25-16, 24-26, 25-19.

The double-digit leaders for the Cardinals were sophomore Carly Mohns with 15 kills and junior Taylor Douglas with 23 assists. Mohns also had two blocks and four aces. Sophomore Rachel heller added eight kills for the Cardinals.

Brodhead (1-3 Rock Valley South) will compete in the Edgerton Invitational Saturday.

Black Hawk 3, Juda 1

JUDA - Sophomore Jen Wellnitz spiked 21 kills and senior Chaesta Shager contributed 17 assists to lead the Black Hawk Warriors past the Juda Panthers, 25-11, 25-8, 25-27, 25-17 in Six Rivers East Conference action Thursday.

Wellnitz added three blocks and junior Abby Schiferl served up five aces for the Warriors. Junior Miranda Trotter delivered nine kills and senior Courtney Moisan added six aces and four blocks to lead Juda. Senior Morgan Kamholz was also a big contrubutor for the Panthers with 22 assists.

Black Hawk will travel to Argyle and Juda will host Albany Tuesday.

Barneveld 3, Pecatonica 2

BLANCHARDVILLE - The Pecatonica Vikings had stretches where it looked like they would overtake the Barneveld Eagles, but fell in five games, 24-26, 25-16, 25-22, 18-25, 15-12 in a Six Rivers East Conference volleyball match Thursday.

Both teams split the first two games and the Vikings looked to be on their way to a win in the third set with senior Taylor Norton serving eight straight points, but Barneveld came away with the win. Needing to win game four, junior Ashley Johnsen came up big with three blocks to lift the Vikings. Pecatonica trailed 9-7 early in game five, but could never catch up.

Madelyn Fischer led the Vikings with 11 kills and junior Michelle Francois had 20 assists. "It was, clearly, a hard fought match for both teams, " said Pecatonica head coach Cher Schliem. "Rachel Slaney (of Barneveld) gave us a lot of trouble.

Pecatonica (1-8 overall, 0-5 Six Rivers East) will host Monticello Thursday.

Cuba City 3, Darlington 0

CUBA CITY - Perennial volleyball power Cuba City improved to 3-1 in the SWAL and 9-6 overall after sweeping the Darlington Redbirds Thursday, 25-12, 25-18, 25-12.

Junior Cassidy Chambers put up impressive numbers for the Redbirds with eight digs, five assists, and two blocks. Junior Cassidy Cox had four blocks and senior Haily McGowan had a pair of aces for the Redbirds.

Darlington (1-4 SWAL) will travel to Mineral Point Tuesday.
