SOUTH WAYNE - For Black Hawk senior Grant Roper, the Warriors' first dual meet win Monday was long overdue.
Roper was one of three Black Hawk wrestlers to post pins as the Warriors muscled their way to a 48-16 dual meet win over Wisconsin Heights.
"It feels good to have a team win," Roper said. "There's been some close matches we should have won."
Roper pinned Wisconsin Heights senior Kurt Meier in 2 minutes, 58 seconds to open the meet.
Roper said Black Hawk hasn't practiced in about six days.
"I'm surprised by how we did tonight," Roper said. "I thought we would be a little rusty. I'm surprised we were all on key."
Wisconsin Heights forfeited seven of the 14 weight classes. Black Hawk also experienced double-forefits at 103, 112 and 125 pounds. The 24 points the Vanguards gave up by forfeits sparked the Warriors.
"I told the kids before the meet that there were just a few matches, and the matches that counted were the ones we would be wrestling," Black Hawk coach Jim Seffrood said. "The guys who wrestled, I thought wrestled well."
Black Hawk senior Ben Stauffacher at 145 pounds pinned Wisconsin Heights freshman Justin Rhodes in 1:08. Fellow senior Kyle Stauffacher (152) pinned Taylor Lathrop in 3:21.
Black Hawk will wrestle at the Laconia Invitational Saturday.
"This will help going into the Laconia team tournament," Seffrood said. "Hopefully, we can move the guys around in our empty spaces and get a couple of wins there."
