BLANCHARDVILLE - Freshmen Natalie Leuzinger and Hannah Butler combined to score 31 points to help the Black Hawk girls basketball team roll to a 62-8 win over Pecatonica on Thursday.
Leuzinger scored a game-high 16 points and knocked down two of the Warriors' four 3-pointers. Butler added 15 points as Black Hawk (9-0, 4-0 Six Rivers East), ranked sixth in the WisSports.net Division 5 Coaches poll, remained in the driver's seat atop the conference.
"I think we did a really good job of putting pressure on their kids," Black Hawk coach Mike Flanagan said. "They have some kids who have never been in a situation like that. I give Pec a lot of credit. They played hard the whole game. It's tough when you are down like that."
Black Hawk senior Sam Lovelace chipped in six points and had six rebounds and four steals. Freshman Maddy Huschitt had five assists and four steals. Junior Hannah Herbst also had five assists.
Black Hawk will face a test when they play at Division 3 power Edgerton on Saturday. Edgerton is 7-1 and is in second place in the Rock Valley North Conference. The Tide feature 5-foot 11 junior Bethany Oren and 5-10 senior Kellan Schmidt.
"They are big and athletic," Flanagan said. "It will be a good challenge for our young team."
Darlington 77, Iowa-Grant 35
LIVINGSTON - Darlington senior Callie Norton scored a game-high 19 points to help the Redbirds roll to a big Southwest Wisconsin Activities League win over Iowa-Grant.
Darlington (7-5, 3-2 SWAL) built a 37-16 lead in the first half.
Junior Kennedy Rankin scored 16 points, and sophomore Kathleen Mathias added 11 points for Darlington. Rankin hit two of the Redbirds' three 3-pointers.
Juda 52, Albany 40
ALBANY - Senior Chelsea Burkhalter scored a game-high 13 points to lead the Panthers to a conference win over Albany.
Burkhalter did most of her damage at the free-throw line where she made 6 of 11.
Juda junior Hailey Kammerer added 12 points.
Juda (7-4, 1-1 Six Rivers East) held a 30-18 lead at the half. The Comets (0-10, 0-3) and Panthers both scored 22 points in the second half.
Albany sophomore Libby Beck scored a team-high 12 points. Sophomore Payton Zurfluh and junior Brook Kahler each added eight points.
