Warriors take first conf. meet

CASSVILLE - Black Hawk took both the boys' and girls' crowns at the first conference meet of the season at Cassville Tuesday.

The Warriors grabbed 11 total first-place finishes, with the boys winning six events and the girls winning five.

Ben Stauffacher won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.89 seconds. Cody Foster took top honors in both the 110-hurdles (17.20) and 300-hurdles (45.02). Bryant Luhman won the shot put with a toss of 42 feet, 11-inches. The Warriors also won two relay races - the 400-relay and the 800-relay.

On the girls side, Rachel Rygh ran to the top spot in the 100 (13.53) and the 400 (1:09.66). Kate Quinn won the 300-hurdles (55.88) and Katie Place won both the long jump (13-9) and triple-jump (29-11 3/4).

Black Hawk's score of 130.5 on the boys side bested second-place Cassville (114) and the girls (127) held off No. 2 Pecatonica-Argyle (100).

The Vikings had two champions on the girls side and three on the boys.

Kendra Sigg won the girls 800 by nearly 14 seconds with a time of 2:41.43. Pecatonica-Argyle's 800-relay team edged Cassville by 1/10th of a second (2:01.67).

Wyatt Massey won the 800 on the boys side for the Vikings, finishing with a time of 2:11.81. Chris James won the 3,200 race (12:44.0) and was a member of Pecatonica-Argyle's champion 3,200-relay team.

Pecatonica's boys team finished fourth overall.

Monticello's boys finished sixth in the eight-team conference meet while the girls took seventh.

Kelsey Bernett won both the 1,600 (5:55.27) and the 3,200 (14:15.00) and was a part of the 3,200-relay championship team.

Reid Zanoya won the 200 on the boys side for the Ponies, finishing with a time of 24.45 seconds. Zanoya also won the 400 (54.80).
