ARGYLE - The Black Hawk High School girls basketball team hit 10 three-pointers to pull out a 59-48 win over Argyle on Friday night.

Black Hawk senior Tatum Jackson scored all 15 of her points in the second half and made four of the Warriors' seven second-half 3-pointers.

Argyle (2-14, 1-6 Six Rivers East) played a 2-3 zone and looked to pack it in the lane to slow down Black Hawk senior Aleigha Sigafus, who finished with 14 points.

Black Hawk sophomore Hannah Herbst finished with 15 points and knocked down three 3-pointers. Black Hawk's Brianna Hagen added two 3-pointers.

The Orioles relied on their 2-3 zone early on, and the Warriors (10-6, 7-1 Six Rivers East) led just 21-18 at the half.

"We really struggled to score in the first half," Black Hawk coach Mike Flanagan said. "Once they (3-pointers) started to go down we had a barrage of them in the second half. Even though they were packing it in we still had to have the ball touch the lane and attack the middle because that distorts their zone. I thought they (Argyle) played really loose. I just felt like it was Argyle's game. We feel fortunate to escape with a victory."

Argyle freshman Jena Saalsaa scored a game-high 27 points, and junior Kayla Butler-Paulson added nine points.

"I said coming into the game they (Argyle) were scary," he said. "They have enough athletes on that team if they can hit some shots they can make it hard and they did that."

Flanagan said the focus was on slowing down Butler-Paulson, but he gave credit to Saalsaa, who shot 12-for-16.

"She (Saalsaa) was shooting very confidently," he said.

Hagen knocked down two 3-pointers late in the second half to spark the Warriors.

"They were really pivotal," Flanagan said. "It's good for her to take advantage of the opportunity."

Both the Warriors and Orioles were having a cancer awareness fundraiser for the University of Wisconsin's Carbone Cancer Center.

Both Pickel and Nyhus each had 11 points in the first half as the Cardinals jumped out to a 31-15 lead.
