JUDA - With Jen Wellnitz back in the lineup, the Black Hawk girls basketball team got back to its winning ways, knocking off Juda, 43-32.
Wellnitz, who missed Black Hawk's previous two games after suffering a concussion in their season opener, led all scorers with 18 points.
Black Hawk jumped out to a 15-4 lead after one quarter of play. Juda won both the second and third quarters, and came within 6 of the Warriors in the fourth quarter, before free throws brought the final differential back up to 11.
"Black Hawk got off to a great start in the first quarter," Juda coach Curt Brown said. "We made some adjustments to try to keep the ball out of Jen's hands as much as possible, and that helped us get back in the game."
Jessica Rackow led the Panthers with 11 points, and Brittany Moe added 9 points.
"They both did a nice job for us," Brown said. "Brittany kinda got her stroke back. Jessi had a great game, going against Jen the whole time. As a team, we did a nice job of working off the ball."
The win ended Black Hawk's two-game skid and evened the Warriors record at 2-2. Juda fell to 2-4 with the loss.

ARGYLE - Jessica Treuthardt scored 17 points to lead the Argyle girls basketball team to a win over Six Rivers East Conference foe Albany. The Orioles knocked off the Comets 56-47.
"I thought we played really well," Argyle coach Kurt Ritschard said. "Our press gave them some trouble in the first quarter (and) got us some lay-ups."
Albany's Cassidy Bump led all scorers with 18 points, and Kirstie Kauk added 10 for the Comets.
Jenna Langmeier and Kayla Ostby chipped in for the Orioles, scoring 12 and 10 points, respectively.
"Jess (Treuthardt) did a real nice job of finishing when she had the ball inside. A lot of that came off of offensive rebounds," Ritschard said. "Langmeier had most of her points on transition baskets from steals."
Friday night's clash was the conference opener for both squads. Ritschard said picking up that first conference win was important for his team.
"It's extremely important," he said. "Coming off our loss to Potosi, getting our first conference win, especially at home, gives us a lot of momentum going into our game with Pecatonica next Thursday."
Monticello 44, Belmont 37
BELMONT - Monticello wrapped up their non-conference slate with a 44-37 win over Belmont.
Monticello coach Lori Brokopp said it wasn't her team's best game, but they managed to pull out the win.
"We had a little trouble taking care of the ball," she said. "We also struggled rebounding; Belmont outrebounded us. But we stuck together, we played some good half-court defense."
The game was tied at 19 at halftime, but the Ponies used a solid third quarter and free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
Alyssah Kubly led Monticello with 11 points, and Brokopp said she was very pleased with the sophomore's performance.
"Kubly worked hard on defense. She picked the pockets of some girls and was able to push it," Brokopp said. "She's good at ball control and taking it to the hoop. She had an overall good game."
Monticello now heads into conference play with a 4-1 record. Brokopp said she is happy with the way her team is playing.
"We have a lot of things we are doing well," she said. "There are definitely some things we need to hone in on. We need to get our free throw percentage up. But overall I'm pretty happy with our half court defense and the way that we're able to execute on offense."
Barneveld 67, Pecatonica 35
BARNEVELD - The Pecatonica girls basketball team's early season struggles continued Friday night, as the Vikings fell to Barneveld, 67-35.
Barneveld came into the season as the favorite in the Six Rivers East, and Pecatonica coach Matt Bakkum knew his team would have to stick to their gameplan if they were going to come out with a win.
"Barneveld's a very good team," he said. "We talked about limiting their possessions. We weren't able to be patient. They had too many possessions and they hit shots."
Senior Michelle Francois led Pecatonica with 14 points. Bakkum said that senior Lizzy Britt also continued her solid season for the Vikings.
"Lizzy Britt had 8 points and 7 rebounds, and she ran the point at times," he said. "She's been our glue all season. We need a third or fourth player to step up for us."
Pecatonica's record dropped to 0-4 with the loss. Bakkum believes his team has the talent to win games, they just need to play their own game.
"It comes down to discipline," he said. "From a basketball standpoint, we are as good or better than most teams we will play. We need to stick to our gameplan and not let other teams dictate to us."
