SOUTH WAYNE - With the return of two starting offensive guards, Black Hawk senior Brody Milz set the tone rushing for 120 yards and three touchdowns to help the Warriors trample North Crawford 68-0 in a WIAA Division 7 Level 1 playoff game Friday.

"It's great to start off strong," Milz said. "It gives us confidence. We really have a lot of weapons all over the field. Our line plays fast and physical. You can't just gang up on one of us. We just keep on rolling."

Black Hawk (10-0), ranked third in the WisSports.net Division 7 Coaches Poll, dominated the line of scrimmage and got a big boost with the return of two starting guards from injury in junior Mitchell Quinn and sophomore Avery Baumgartner. The Warriors, which gashed the Trojans for 435 total rushing yards, scored on their first five drives and had 13 plays of 15-yards or more during the game.

"It's hard to evaluate a game like this," Black Hawk coach Cory Milz said. "It seems like the kids took care of business pretty good without looking at the film. We had our two starting guards back. It made a big difference having Avery in there. It makes us better coming off combo blocks. It's great having Mitchell in there because he's so fast and so good at getting out in space. It really made a difference to have those two back on offense."

Black Hawk will host Iowa-Grant in a Level 2 playoff game next week in South Wayne. Iowa-Grant defeated Ithaca 22-13 Friday.

"At this point in the season, teams are who they are," Cory Milz said. "It's all about

staying healthy, execution, playing at a high level, taking care of business and letting the chips fall where they may."

The Warriors were dealing with a tall stack of chips in a dominating win over the Trojans. Black Hawk senior quarterback Michael Flanagan raced for a 50-yard touchdown run with about 9 minutes left in the first quarter. Brody Milz scored on a two-point conversion run to give the Warriors an 8-0 lead.

Black Hawk junior Colby Argall then intercepted a pass by North Crawford senior Johnathan Volden and returned it 36 yards for a touchdown. Argall ran in the two-point conversion to make it 16-0. On Black Hawk's next possession, the Warriors' six-play, 60-yard drive, culminated in Brody Milz's 4-yard TD run. Flanagan then hooked up with Jason Treuthardt on a two-point conversion pass to give the Warriors an insurmountable 24-0 lead they wouldn't relinquish.

The Trojans had a botched snap on a punt attempt on the next possession and senior Skyler Olson scooped it up and looked to race for a first down. However, Black Hawk junior Rece Shelton came up with a big hit to stop him short. Two plays later, Brody Milz rumbled for a 25-yard TD run to make it 30-0 late in the first quarter. On the first play of the second quarter, Milz, broke loose for a 63-yard TD run. Argall scored on the two-point conversion run for a 38-0 advantage.

Argall scored again later on a 6-yard run with 9:39 left in the second quarter. The scoring opportunity was set up by Black Hawk back-up quarterback Kyle Lovelace's 59-yard run on the option. On their next possession, the Warriors capped a seven-play, 66-yard drive, with sophomore Jaylen Rufenacht's 3-yard TD run that made it 52-0 at the half.

Rufenacht rushed for 77 yards on eight carries and had two touchdowns. He also had an interception late in the first half. Flanagan completed 2 of 3 passes for 34 yards.

The Warriors' defense forced two turnovers and recorded their third shutout of the season. Black Hawk limited the Trojans to just 120 total yards.

About midway through the third quarter, Rufenacht scored on a 20-yard run. Sophomore Cayden Milz ran in the two-point conversion to give the Warriors a 60-0 lead. Sophomore running back Brady Hagen had the final score of the game on a 1-yard run.

Black Hawk will now gear up for Iowa-Grant in a Level 2 playoff game next week in South Wayne.

"It doesn't matter," Brody Milz said of who he would like to play between Iowa-Grant and Ithaca before finding out who won. "I would like to play IG from the SWAL. We want to keep doing what we do and play hard, fast and physical football."
