WISCONSIN DELLS - Black Hawk girls basketball coach Mike Flanagan credited sophomore Hannah Herbst's defense as one of the main reasons why the Warriors knocked off eighth-ranked Randolph 40-34 on Saturday at the Justagame Fieldhouse.

Herbst scored nine points, but she stymied Randolph's leading scorer Morgan Paul, limiting her to nine points. Paul entered the game averaging 18 points per game.

"I thought Hannah did a good job of being physical on her," Flanagan said. "Hannah was right there every time she caught it. I think she made it tough on her and she started to have some doubts. I think we frustrated her."

Black Hawk senior Aleigha Sigafus scored a team-high 12 points. Randolph's Brooke Roberts scored 11 of her game-high 15 points in the first half. Despite Roberts' hot start, the Warriors led 23-19 at the half. With the win, Black Hawk improves to 11-6, 7-1 Six Rivers East.

"We didn't shoot the ball well overall," Flanagan said. "I thought our halfcourt defense was really good."

With Randolph in the same half sectional as Black Hawk, Flanagan said the win was big for seeding purposes when it comes time to seed for the tournament.
