This week's nominees:

Monroe: Chelsea Brice, Girls Basketball: scored 11 points, including nine in the second quarter, of the Cheesemakers' 62-28 win over Elkhorn Friday.

Aaron Hesgard, Wrestling: The 103-pound freshman pinned his opponent during Thursday's 34-33 dual loss to Lena-Winslow at home.

Michael Barrett, Boys Basketball: Scored 16 points in the Cheesemakers' rout of Milwaukee School of Languages Saturday.

Area boys: Alex Erickson, Darlington Basketball: The junior sharpshooter scored 24 points while nearly bringing the Redbirds back, only to lose to the state's top-ranked team, Cuba City, 57-53 Friday.

Ryan Bright, New Glarus Basketball: The senior scored 27 points in a 60-52 loss to Wisconsin Heights Jan. 12. He followed up that performance with a 24-point game in the Knights' 61-44 thumping of Marshall.

Tanner Andrews, Darlington Wrestling: Andrews was a perfect 6-0 this past week with six pins. Four of those wins came during Saturday's Belmont Duals.

Area Girls:

Kimee Chandler, Pecatonica Basketball: The two-time all-state player recorded her 1,000th career point, and 19 points in the game, on Jan. 14 in a 72-51 loss to conference rival Black Hawk.

Katie Place, Black Hawk Basketball: The senior forward scored 12 points and had 14 rebounds in the Warriors' 72-51 win over Pecatonica on Jan. 14. Against Potosi on Jan. 11, Place also had a double-double, finishing with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Kim Wellnitz, Black Hawk Basketball: The senior center scored her 1,000th career point on Jan. 11 during a 56-41 non-conference win over Potosi. Wellnitz scored 25 points and had 10 rebounds in the game. In a Jan. 14 game against Pecatonica, Wellnitz scored 19 points.
