Monroe

Jamie Armstrong, Girls Basketball: Senior scored 12 points in a 58-40 win over Waunakee Feb. 15, then dropped 19 on Senior Night in a 57-26 win over Monona Grove. Armstrong also led the charge in the "Hoops for Haiti" effort, helping several school organizations raise over $4,000 for the Red Cross to help the victims of the January Earthquake that riddled the country.

Kevin Klopfenstein, Wrestling: Despite being just a freshman, Klopfenstein qualified for state in the 119-pound division. He set a school record with his 40th win of the season, holding off Lakeside Lutheran's Riley Wingate, 1-0, in the third place match at the Richland Center Sectional.

Nick Walker, Wrestling: Despite being in just his second year of wrestling, the Cheesemakers' heavyweight was nearly on his way to state. Walker lost a 3-1 third-place match at the Richland Center Sectional.

Area Boys

Hunter Colden, Brodhead-Juda Wrestling: Colden became the first Cardinals' freshman to qualify for state. After posting a 39-6 regular season record, Colden defeated Lodi sophomore Jesse Ziegler, 14-8, to assure a tripe to state in the 145-pound weight class.

Devin Malott, Darlington Wrestling: Malott (38-2 overall), finished 3-0 at the Westby Sectional Saturday to earn his way to Madison in the 119-pound weight class.

J.J. Panoske, Brodhead Basketball: Scored 32 points, including 18 in the first half of Brodhead's 60-45 win against Big Foot Feb. 16. In a Feb. 18 victory over Beloit Turner, Panoske hit five 3-pointers and scored 37 points.

Area Girls

Taylor Pfeuti, Monticello Basketball: Pfeuti scored 22 points in the Ponies' loss to Pecatonica Feb. 19, 53-52. In a Feb. 16 win over Albany, Pfeuti had eight points.

Michelle Preston, New Glarus Basketball: Senior guard Michelle Preston scored 20 points, including six 3-pointers, in a 54-29 win over Waterloo Feb. 19

Alisha Esselstein, Pecatonica Basketball: Esselstein had 18 points to lead Pecatonica in scoring in a 53-52 win over Monticello Feb. 19. In a Feb. 16 loss to Black Hawk, Esselstein scored 16 points to lead the Vikings.
