VOLLEYBALL REGIONALS: Black Hawk gets past game Juda

SOUTH WAYNE - The Warriors had a tougher time than they might have expected in their first-round regional volleyball match Tuesday.

Black Hawk, the third seed in the Division 4 Williams Bay Regional, swept No. 6 Juda in three games, but the Panthers were pesky in the 25-13, 25-18, 25-20 outcome.

Gabi Lehner had 18 assists, four aces, and was a perfect 21-for-21 from the service line for Black Hawk. Paige Butler had 11 kills and five aces, and Hailey Meier, Katie Place and Kim Wellnitz each had three aces.

Megan Trotter had eight service points for Juda. Katy Knudtson had eight digs and Heather Boecke added six kills for the Panthers.

Black Hawk travels to No. 2 seed Faith Christian for a WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal Friday.

In other first-round volleyball regional matches Tuesday:

SOUTHWESTERN 3, ARGYLE 0

HAZEL GREEN - The Orioles' season ended earlier than they had hoped in a 25-19, 25-14, 25-17 to Southwestern in the Barneveld Regional.

Kelsey Ostby had three kills, Cassie Welch had five aces, Jeannie Dammen notched six assists, and Lindsay Flanagan added seven digs for Argyle, which was the seventh seed in the regional.

BRODHEAD 3, EVANSVILLE 0

BRODHEAD - Kristen Ruchti had six kills for the Cardinals, who dominated Evansville in the first round of the WIAA playoffs, 25-7, 25-7, 25-8.

Dana Lewis also had six kills, Cassie Wymer had 17 assists, Megan Heller had 12 assists, Brooke Ledgerman added three aces, and Jordan Riese had a block for second-seeded Brodhead, which hosts No. 3 Monroe on Friday night in an Evansville Regional semifinal.

BELLEVILLE 3, NEW GLARUS 0

BELLEVILLE - Belleville swept the Glarner Knights right out of the playoffs, but not before New Glarus put up a fight. Belleville took the first game 25-6, but New Glarus fought back in the final two before losing 25-11, 25-19.

Kelsey Zimmerman and Anysia Secord had two kills apiece, Kalie French had three blocks, Lauren Narveson dished out a pair of assists and Kaitlin Schluter added an ace for the Glarner Knights.

PARKVIEW 3, DARLINGTON 0

ORDFORDVILLE - The Redbirds' season ended in a three-game sweep by Parkview, 25-22, 25-20, 25-17.

Cassie Fink had four kills, Whitney Hardyman added five aces and Paige Champion finished the game with nine assists for Darlington.
