VOLLEYBALL: Comets bounce back to spike Argyle

ARGYLE - After losing the first game Thursday, Albany rallied to sweep the final three for a four-set volleyball victory at Argyle.

The Comets prevailed 23-25, 25-12, 25-21, 25-23. They were led by Courtney Pfeuti, who finished with 15 assists. Kaitlynn Schulz had six kills and three blocks. Hillary Best had six kills and Sydney Bump had three blocks.

For Argyle, Jackie Dammen had six kills, Lindsay Flanagan had nine digs, Sierra Granberg had nine aces and Stephanie Cuevos added 10 assists.

In other action Thursday:

BRODHEAD 3, BIG FOOT 0

At Brodhead, the Cardinals put their foot down against visiting Big Foot, defeating the Chiefs 25-20, 25-19, 25-21 in both teams' Rock Valley Conference opener.

Kristen Ruchti and Courtney Mielke were a one-two punch on offense, collecting 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Cassie Wymer also pitched in with 28 assists and two aces.

Jordan Riese and Amanda Johnson each had nine digs, and Mielke added eight. Ruchti also had five blocks.

FENNIMORE 3, DARLINGTON 2

The Redbirds had a rollercoaster night at home against Fennimore.

Darlington won game one 25-15 before losing 25-19 in game two. In game three, the Redbirds won in dramatic fashion, 25-23.

With just one more game to win the match, Darlington fell hard. Fennimore won 25-5 in game four and 15-2 in the tiebreaker.

Courtney McBee finished with seven kills and four aces for the Redbirds. Whitney Hardyman had seven kills and four blocks. Cassie Fink finished with six digs, and Paige Champion had 16 assists.

PECATONICA 3, JUDA 0

Brittany Kent had four kills, two blocks and six aces to lead the Vikings to a 25-22, 25-17, 25-23 sweep of Juda.

Morgan Pien had four digs and Kimee Chandler added two assists for Pecatonica. Juda was led by Heather Boeke's nine kills and three blocks. Katy Knudtson had 13 digs, and McKenzie Swaag had five service aces.

The Vikings remained tied with Black Hawk at the top of the Six Rivers Conference's Eastern Division at 3-0. Juda is 0-3 in the league.

NEW GLARUS 3, MARSHALL 0

At New Glarus, Kelsey Zimmerman had 11 kills to lead the Glarner Knights to an easy 25-12, 25-5, 25-16 win. Lauren Narveson and Kaitlin Schluter each had 12 assists for New Glarus (1-5 overall, 1-2 Capitol Southern division), while Julia Gartzke had six blocks. Marshall dropped to 0-3 in the league and 1-5 overall.
