RIVER VALLEY - The Pecatonica girls basketball team received a big game from senior Kimee Chandler and hung on for a 54-51 win over River Valley Monday night.
Chandler, a University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee recruit, scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Vikings. Pecatonica (5-8, 2-4 Six Rivers East) stormed out to a 17-7 first-quarter lead and snapped a six-game losing streak.
The Blackhawks came back and outscored the Vikings 18-11 in the second quarter to cut the Vikings' halftime lead to three points. River Valley was doomed by poor free throw shooting (16 of 31).
The Vikings made just 3 of 8 free throws, but were able to hang on for the victory. Pecatonica junior Alisha Esselstein scored 14 points.
Black Hawk 58, Warren 35
WARREN - The Warriors used a complete team effort Monday night en route to beating Warren (Ill.) 58-35, which was their 10th-straight win.
Black Hawk (11-1, 6-0 Six Rivers East), ranked seventh in the Associated Press Division 4 poll, jumped out to a 20-7 first-quarter lead.
The Warriors built their lead to 35-10 by halftime. Black Hawk senior Kim Wellnitz scored a team-high 19 points and hit two 3-pointers. Junior Rachel Rygh scored 16 points and Melissa Wellnitz had 13.
"We were able to get up by quite a bit and were able to play kids in the fourth quarter," Black Hawk coach Mike Flanagan said.
