Vikings topple Knights

BLANCHARDVILLE - The Pecatonica baseball team took advantage of six New Glarus errors to beat the Glarner Knights 12-2 in five innings in a non-conference game Monday.

Pecatonica sophomore Cory Linder went 2-for-2. Pecatonica junior Gavin Burdick had a double and two RBI for the Vikings who improve to 2-0.

"We took advantage of some things on the bases," Pecatonica Jim Strommen said. "We ran the bases aggressively."

Pecatonica junior Riley Gould pitched 3 1/3 innings to get the win. Gould gave up one run on two hits. He struck out four and walked three. Pecatonica junior Kyle Kleppe pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief and gave up one run, but didn't allow a hit. He struck out four and walked four and hit one batter.

Four New Glarus pitchers walked five. New Glarus senior Koner French pitched two innings and gave up three runs on one hit. He struck out three and walked two. Freshman Jared Carney pitched two innings and gave up three runs on one hit. He struck out three and walked one.

The Vikings broke the game open with a six-run fifth.
