BLANCHARDVILLE - The Pecatonica baseball team slugged its way to a doubleheader sweep over Potosi Friday.
Pecatonica defeated Potosi 12-2 in the first game and 12-5 in the second game of the twinbill. Pecatonica senior Drew Schliem went a combined 5-for-8 with a home run and five RBI during the sweep. With the wins, Pecatonica improves to 8-0, 6-0 Six Rivers East.
"They were two good wins for us," Pecatonica coach Jim Strommen said. "It was a great doubleheader sweep."
Pecatonica sophomore A.J. Hendrickson pitched a complete game to get the win in the first game. He gave up two runs on three hits. He struck out two and walked three. Pecatonica's Cory Linder went 2-for-2 with one RBI and Hendrickson helped his own cause going 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI. Schliem went 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI and Gavin Burdick was 2-for-4 with one RBI.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Vikings battled back from a 4-2 deficit. The Vikings scored three runs in the third and three runs in the fifth.
"We hit the ball pretty consistently," Strommen said. "We were consistent in the field except for in the second when Potosi got three runs."
Schliem went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in the second game. Junior Kyle Kleppe went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI and Hendrickson was 2-for-4 with a double.
Kleppe pitched 4 1/3 innings to get the win. He gave up five runs on five hits. He struck out four and walked five. Junior Brooks Chandler pitched 2 2/3 innings of shutout relief.
Belmont 5, Albany 4
Belmont 11, Albany 1
BELMONT - The Braves swept a doubleheader from Albany Friday.
Belmont defeated the Comets 5-4 in the first game and 11-1 in the night cap of the twinbill. Both Albany seniors Mitchell Trow and Joey McNaught went 2-for-3 in the first game. McNaught had a double and a triple.
Albany scored two runs in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. The Braves battled back with a two-run second to take a 3-2 lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Trow pitched six innings and gave up five earned runs on 10 hits. He struck out six and walked one.
Belmont (2-0) pounded out 15 hits and had a six-run second in Game 2 to roll to the victory. Trow went 2-for-3 to lead the Comets at the plate.
Mauston 3, New Glarus 2
NEW GLARUS - Junior Austin Schlueter had two hits for New Glarus, but it wasn't enough as Mauston clipped the Glarner Knights 3-2 Friday.
Mauston's Nate Bass pitched five innings and gave up one run and struck out four. Bass also paced the Golden Eagles with two hits.
John Chenoweth went 1-for-3 with one RBI and Andrew Nimtz went 1-for-2 with one RBI for the Knights. Chenoweth pitched a complete game and gave up one earned run on eight hits.
