STOUGHTON - Walks again came back to plague the Monroe baseball team in an 8-0 loss to Stoughton Thursday.

Combined, two Monroe pitchers walked 14. Six of the 14 hitters that walked came around to score. Monroe sophomore Jared Dillon started and pitched three innings. He gave up five earned runs on three hits, struck out two and walked eight. Junior teammate Dagon Rach pitched three innings in relief and gave up two earned runs, while striking out three and walking six.

"Walks will kill you," Monroe coach Eric Losenegger said. "You can't give up free passes because they will come back to bite you. Walks are hurting us right now. Pitchers need to throw more strikes. We are not throwing nearly enough strikes. It is a lot different in a game than a bullpen session they are throwing before they pitch when there is no pressure and base runners."

Stoughton lefty Brock Wanninger tossed a complete game two-hit shutout. He struck out eight and walked four.

Dillon went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Cheesemakers. He singled in both the second and fourth innings.

After having a couple of games postponed due to rain and cold weather, the Cheesemakers are just getting used to live action.

"Everyone is in the same boat," Losenegger said. "We are still getting our legs underneath us being outside and having live action."

Monroe (0-2) will host Watertown in a doubleheader at 11 a.m. Saturday.
