Vikings look good in Benton, Black Hawk upsets Cuba City

BENTON - Pecatonica-Argyle leaned heavily on its potent rushing attack Friday, Aug. 30 en route to a 55-8 victory over Benton-Scales Mound.

Vikings running backs Alex Treuthardt, Tylor Henneman and Brooks Chandler all had excellent games, helping Pecatonica-Argyle take a 41-0 halftime lead and allowing the Vikings to rest most of its starters for the second half.

"Our offensive line played a great game. They got off the ball and created running holes for our backs," said Vikings head coach Larry Green. Green said all but one of the Vikings' touchdowns came on the ground, adding that the team only needed to throw the ball four or five times during the whole game.

Despite all of their success in the game, Green said the Vikings will have plenty to work on this week in practice.

"After tonight, we have a lot of things to work on technique-wise," he said. "The first part of the schedule (favors) us, so we have some things to correct before we go up against teams like Black Hawk and Potosi. We don't see those guys until the second half of the season.

"So when we go back on film, I'm sure we'll find plenty of things to correct."

Green said the game featured great efforts from both the defensive and offensive units, including a nice game in the second half from freshman running back Colin Argue. Argue carried most of the rushing load for the Vikings in the third and fourth quarters, Green said.

"The (offensive line) was determined to move the ball tonight and that's what happened," Green said. "Our defense (also) played really well tonight. We created a few turnovers, so that's always important to us. Our defense is going to be a strong point for us."
