BLANCHARDVILLE - The Pecatonica High School softball team almost pulled off an improbable comeback before dropping a slugfest 15-10 to Fennimore.
Fennimore scored 13 runs in the first inning to take a 13-0 lead. The Vikings scored three runs in the fifth and six runs in the sixth to cut the Eagles' lead to 13-10.
Pecatonica pounded out 15 hits, and Fennimore had 12 hits.
The Vikings had eight errors, and the Eagles committed five errors.
Pecatonica senior Ellie Hjelle went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Senior Kailee Schraepfer went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. Junior Carly Rindy was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Three other players had multiple hits for the Vikings - senior Sarah Saether, senior Kelsey Chrostowski and senior Ashley Shilling were each 2-for-5.
Pecatonica senior pitcher Clara Moen pitched a complete game and gave up four earned runs on 12 hits. Moen struck out nine and walked four. Moen also added two RBI at the plate.
Juda-Albany 23, Potosi 1
POTOSI - Juda-Albany junior Sara Jordan went 4-for-4 with a home run and five RBI to lead the Panthers past Potosi.
Juda-Albany (9-4, 7-0 Six Rivers East) scored four runs in both the first and second innings to take an 8-1 lead.
The Panthers put the game away with a 12-run third. Jordan crushed a three-run home run to left in the third.
Sophomore teammate Hailey Kammerer went 2-for-5 with three RBI. Both senior Danielle Dieckhoff went 2-for-3 and junior Alexis Goecks was 2-for-4.
"We took it easy on Wednesday," Juda-Albany coach Bill Davis said. "I noticed the girls needed it. They really hit the ball great in practice on Thursday, and I was hoping it would carry over and it did. We hit the ball really hard."
Potosi committed six errors.
Juda-Albany sophomore Nicki Becker pitched a three-hitter to get the win. She struck out eight and gave up just on earned run while walking one.
"Striking out eight in five innings is a really good performance," Davis said of Becker. "She has been on the last couple of weeks. She pitched very well."
River Ridge-Cassville 17, Monticello 6
MONTICELLO - Freshman Hannah Zanow went 3-for-4, but River Ridge-Cassville rallied to beat the Ponies.
Monticello (1-7, 1-5 Six Rivers East) scored three runs in the first inning to take a 3-1 lead. The Ponies had six straight hits to take the lead. Monticello junior Chandler Hansen led off with a single. Junior teammate Megan Lehr followed with a single, and Hansen was picked off second base. Junior Jessie Garrison singled. With two on, freshman Claire Klossner delivered an RBI single. Freshman teammate Lexi Graber followed with an RBI single, and Zanow had an RBI single to stake the Ponies to a 3-0 lead.
River Ridge rallied with two runs in the second to tie the game. River Ridge-Cassville completed the comeback with a five-run third and a seven-run seventh.
Monticello committed four errors.
"We had way too many mental errors," Monticello coach Duane Garrison said. "We had two big innings and it kind of snowballed on us."
Klossner and Garrison both went 2-for-4 to lead the Ponies' 13 hit attack.
Garrison pitched a complete game and gave up nine earned runs on 13 hits. She struck out five and walked seven.
