MADISON - If Jeriamy Jackson threw on some tunes this morning to wake up, he likely didn't throw Stealers Wheel in the rotation.
The Monroe golf coach wasn't happy his club was stuck in the middle of the pack on a day that could've inspired the most even-keel golfer who stepped onto the links at Maple Bluff for Monday's Madison Edgewood Invitational.
"Beautiful, beautiful day," Jackson said. "But we just didn't score so well."
Monroe compiled 333 strokes while Madison Memorial took the title with 306. Badger Conference adversaries Edgewood and McFarland took second (307 points) and third (323), respectively.
Junior Mitch McArdle led Monroe with a 79 while senior Gary Petit carded 81 and Brandon Wilson 82. Aaron Krattiger rounded out Monroe's counted scores with a 91.
In addition to the foursome, a couple of snowmen also stopped by as some 8's showed up on cards.
"The big numbers killed us as they will any golfer," Jackson said.
The model country club course is a par 71 with mature trees and an abundance of bunkers that challenge competitors to be more accurate than they are powerful.
"If you're not an accurate ball-striker, you're gonna get in trouble on this course," Jackson said.
Weather permitting, the Cheesemakers will cleat up again today to take aim at Monona Grove at The Oaks.
