MONROE - The Monroe Youth Hockey Avalanche Girls U12 team ended their season with a 5-3 win against Verona Ice Spirit U12 on Sunday, Feb. 20.
The Ice Spirit opened the scoring in the first period by scoring two goals. The Avalanche team responded with five goals in the second period scored by Tessa Janecke, Anika Einbeck; and a hat trick (three goals) for Kayla Einbeck.
Earning assists were Ally Einbeck, Haley Knauf, Emma Ness, and Tessa Janecke.
The Ice Spirit scored a goal in the third period.
Goalie Jenna Schmerbach recorded 13 saves.
The Avalanche Girls U12 finished the season 8-3.
Avalanche Squirts Hockey
MONROE - Last weekend the Monroe Avalanche Squirt team played three games and went 1-2.
On Friday, Feb. 11, Monroe hosted Beloit and lost 3-0.
On Sunday, the team traveled to Sauk Prairie and lost 4-2. Joe Wyss and Emma Ness had the Monroe goals.
Later that day the team played in Wisconsin Dells and won by the score of 4-2.
The Dells scored first but Cammi Ganshert tied the game with a blast from just inside the blue line. Moments later Jared Cline beat the Dells goalie to give Monroe a 2-1 lead.
The Dells opened the third period with a flurry of shots and were finally able to beat Avalanche goalie Payton Stauffacher to tie the game at two.
Less than a minute later, Jamaar Manor scored to give Monroe the lead for good. Riley Jones tipped in a Connor Nafzger shot to give Monroe it's fourth goal of the game.
Stauffacher was outstanding in net for Monroe, stopping 27 shots.
