U-12 Mystic Rebels take second at MAYSA Cup

VERONA - The Monroe Rebels U-12 Mystic girls soccer team participated in the 2017 MAYSA Cup Tournament May 21-22 at Reddan Soccer Park.

Monroe knocked off Belleville 6-1 in a rain-soaked first game May 21. In the second game, Monroe won 2-0 over Regent Soccer Cub of the Madison area.

On May 21, the Monroe Mystics defeated Dodgeville 3-1 to win their pool to advance to the championship game against Glacial Drumlin of the Deerfield area.

The championship game was played on the artificial turf. Deerfield edged Monroe in the title game 3-2.

Deerfield went up 2-0 midpoint of the first half. Monroe hit a post and missed an opportunity off a corner kick in the first half.

Monroe put pressure on Deerfield in the second half. Deerfield committed a foul just outside the 18-yard box giving Monroe a set play. Marlies Brandli took the kick, driving the ball over Deerfield's wall and under the cross bar. Deerfield scored again to make it 3-1 with 10 minutes left.

Karlee Boll received the ball on the outside and was available to drive in with the ball putting it in the back of the net.
