U-11 Rebel Mustangs win MAYSA Cup

VERONA - Last weekend, the U-11 Rebel girls Mustangs competed in the MAYSA (Madison Area Youth Soccer Associaton) tournament at Reddan Park in Verona and brought home the first-place gold.

On Saturday morning, the Mustangs defeated McFarland 3-1. Goals were scored by Emily Benzschawel, Olivia Werth and Brynn Ritschard. Goalkeeper for the first half was Anna Latimer and she had five saves. Morgan Seffrood was the goalkeeper in the second half and she had five saves.

In the afternoon, the Mustangs beat Belleville 5-2. Three goals were scored in the first half, all by Brynn Ritschard. Benzschawel was the goalkeeper and she had three saves. In the second half of play, Olivia Werth scored a goal followed by a goal by Benzschawel.

The Mustangs returned to Verona on Sunday to take on Evansville and earned a 5-1 victory. Goals were scored by Ritschard and Benzschawel in the first half, and Morgan Seffrood had one save as goalie. Seffrood had four saves as goalie. In the second half, Werth scored a goal, Ally Einbeck registered a goal and Ritschard had a goal. With the win, the Mustangs finished in first place in bracket A and faced the winners of Bracket B in the championships.

In the championship game, the Mustangs edged Mount Horeb 3-2.

The championship game was very hard fought and excellent defense was seen from Kennedy Ludwig, Samantha Ellefson, Anna Latimer, Aspen Bader, and Sydney Mathiason plus solid offense by Allison O'Brien, Alexa Bader, Heather Burkhalter, Ally Einbeck and Dani Larraga helped propel the Rebels to a 3-2 victory to become MAYSA Cup champions. Goals the first half were scored by Larraga on an assist by Werth. Ritschard scored a goal off of a corner kick from Seffrood. Mount Horeb answered with two goals to go into half time tied at 2-2. Benzschawel as goalkeeper in the first half had four saves and Seffrood had one save.

Seffrood continued goalkeeper duties the second half and had three saves. Ritschard made the winning goal of the game and then excellent defense protected the win. The U-11 Rebel Mustangs are coached by Troy and Janel Bader.
