MONROE - The U-10 Rebel Mustangs had a fantastic weekend with two more wins. The girls traveled to Janesville on Saturday, Sept. 26, and defeated the Janesville Flash, 4-2.
Goalies for the game were Aspen Bader with four saves and Emily Benzschawel with two saves. Ally Einbeck earned the first goal of the game, followed by a Janesville goal which ended the first half 1-1. Attempts on goal were made by Kennedy Ludwig, Olivia Werth, Einbeck, and Heather Burkhalter. In the second half, Burkhalter scored a goal, followed by a goal by Werth, that was assisted by Ludwig. Janesville scored again but then Burkhalter answered to seal the win for the Mustangs. Attempts the second half were made by Einbeck, Werth and Burkhalter. Benzschawel, Ludwig, Phebe Ellsworth and Alexa Bader contributed toward the win with excellent defense.
On Sunday, Sept. 27, the Mustangs took on the Stoughton Stampede and came away with a 5-1 victory. Aspen earned three saves as goalie in the first half. Many attempts on goal were made by Benzschawel, Brynn Ritchards, Einbeck, Werth and Burkhalter.
The Mustangs scored three unanswered goals in the first half, two by Burkhalter and one by Benzschawel on an assist from by Einbeck. Werth took over goalkeeper duties in the second half and earned three saves, with great defensive help by Ludwig, Benzschawel, Ellsworth and Kirsten Kundert. Attempts on goal were made by Ritschards, Burkhalter, Ludwig and Einbeck. Ritchards scored a goal that was assisted by Burkhalter and Stoughton answered with a goal. Einbeck scored the Mustangs' fifth goal on an assist by Kundert to bring the game to a close.
