Trio of grapplers shine

VERONA - The Black Hawk-Darlington wrestling team went 2-3 in the Verona dual tournament on Saturday.

Black Hawk-Darlington defeated Verona 49-24 and Watertown 51-24. The Warrior-Redbirds lost to Badger 50-22 and to Cedarburg 36-28 and Oconomowoc rolled to a 48-18 win over the Warrior-Redbirds.

Black Hawk-Darlington had three wrestlers finish 4-1 including senior Caleb Novak (145 pounds), senior Conrad Blosch (182) and senior Taylor Evenstad (220).

The Monroe wrestling team was scheduled to be at the Verona Duals, but pulled out. Monroe coach Tom Witt said several wrestlers had skin infections.

Witt said Monroe will still be able to host wrestling dual meets against Edgerton on Tuesday and Stoughton on Friday.
